1. Quilt Festival 2018

The much anticipated Houston International Quilt Festival has come and gone.  It is always amazing and overwhelming at the same time. My friend Jody and I had to take a picture by the huge sewing machine. We thought about sending it to our husbands and telling them it was the new sewing machine we just bought. There are so many quilts and so many vendors that there's no way to see everything with…Read More

  2. Quilting with My Sisters

I seem to be on a family theme the last few blog posts, and yet, I have one more. My sisters and I take a "Sister Trip" every year and last weekend we went to Dallas for the Dallas Quilt Guild Quilt Show.  They apparently have a big active membership because their show is the biggest guild show that I have ever attended. And they have it every year in early March. My own guild as well as several …Read More

  3. More Quilt Show Quilts

As promised, here are the other two quilts that I entered in the West Houston Quilter's Guild quilt show in March. One received a third place ribbon and the other received an honorable mention. These are two quilts that I just made because I liked the fabrics and the patterns and then decided to enter them in our semi-annual quilt show. The one on the left is made using a very easy "Stack and Whac…Read More

  4. My WHQG Quilt Show Quilts

The West Houston Quilter's Guild quilt show was held in early March and as mentioned in a previous post, I entered four quilts. My purple and black challenge quilt that I pictured in a previous post did not win a ribbon, but it came in third when the guild members voted on their favorites. It's always good when your quilting peers like your work. Another quilt that I entered, the Prismatic Star, w…Read More

  5. Quilt Show Time

It's almost time for the West Houston Quilter's Guild Quilt Show, so come on out and see our quilts. I've entered four this year as well as donating a quilt for the silent auction. We will also have vendors, so plan to make a day of it. Paula Barnes of Red Crinoline Quilts is our featured quilter this year and some of her quilts will be on display, perhaps even some that I have quilted for her. Th…Read More

  6. WHQG Challenge Quilt

Every other year, my quilt guild, West Houston Quilter's Guild, has a quilt show. I have entered a quilt or quilts every year except one since I've been in the guild. I discovered that it's more fun to have a quilt in the show, so I now make a big effort to find time to make one to enter. Well, I got overly zealous this year and I'm entering four! Our guild always does a challenge and I have never…Read More

  7. Silent Auction Quilt for WHQG Show

The fall is my favorite time of year even though it has still felt like summer until the last day or so. It's still in the eighties, but that's cooler for us, so I'm happy about the improvement. October always gets me excited about the Houston International Quilt Market and Festival, but it's also the time of year that I start thinking about quilts for my guild's quilt show. The West Houston Quilt…Read More

  8. Feeding My Quilting Addiction Feeds My Soul

As I've mentioned before, I'm very fortunate to be able to do what I love as a business.  And one of the best things about this t-shirt quilt business is being able to go to quilting conferences and be with "my people".  Three longarm quilting friends and I are heading to New Hampshire on Tuesday to attend Machine Quilters Exposition.  MQX, as it is more commonly called, is a quilt show and con…Read More

  9. Houston International Quilt Festival

After Quilt Market ends, the Houston International Quilt Festival begins. Unlike Market, which is a trade show for business owners, Festival is open to the public. And does it ever attract a crowd. Over 50,000 people attend during the four day show. I haven’t heard the attendance figures for this year, but last year was the Fortieth Anniversary Celebration and there were over 60,000 attendees. T…Read More
