Stretching as a Quilter

img_20161004_202052546As a long time quilter, I have certain types of quilts that I like to make. Piecing is my favorite thing to do, but paper piecing is a whole new ball of wax for me. I fell so in love with a pattern by Judy Niemeyer called Prismatic Star that I had to make it. The only problem was that it is made using paper piecing and that just seems a little backward to me. But since I loved the quilt so much, I decided to get a group of friends together and organize a class to be taught by Carol Thelen who is a certified instructor for Judy Niemeyer’s patterns. We took the class in June and I learned all about paper piecing. It’s still not my favorite thing to do, but I finally finished putting the quilt top together and I think it’s going to be one of my favorite quilts. Besides doing paper piecing, I never thought I would use so much orange in a quilt, but this quilt just called for an orange background. I still have to put the quilt on my longarm quilting machine and get it quilted, but I plan to do that after the Christmas rush is over. Right now I’m so busy making t-shirt quilts for customers for holiday gifts that I can’t allow myself the luxury of working on one of my own quilts. But I promise I will post another picture after I get it quilted. In the meantime, if you’re wanting a quilt in time for Christmas, contact me soon!

Take a look at our Gallery to see examples of the T-Shirt Quilts as well as few of the many other quilts we have made.

I started making quilts as a child and have been quilting for others for over twenty years. Quilts that I have quilted have been featured in several quilting books and magazines.
