1. Studio Update after Hurricane Harvey

I really wish I could quit talking about Hurricane Harvey and the resulting flood, but it's still very much a part of my daily life. The house repairs still aren't completed, but my studio looks really nice, so I thought I would share some pictures. We're working steadily to get all the Christmas T-shirt quilt orders done. Tommy is working on quilt binding. He is very proud of his new ruler holder…Read More

  2. Having Quilting Withdrawals

As mentioned in previous posts, Hurricane Harvey did a number on us with his torrential rains that flooded our house. We had so much to do and so many decisions to make that I didn't get to sew a whole lot, but I was finally getting back in the groove when the date arrived for the contractors to start work. I had asked them to do my studio before the house because we needed to be able to work whil…Read More

  3. Still in Business After Hurricane Harvey

Harvey Update: We are still in business even though our house got water in it. We were able to protect everything in the studio except the walls and part of those will have to be removed. But we will be working in the studio every day that we can because this is, after all, our main source of income. I know a lot of people in Houston, Katy, and the surrounding areas do not have t-shirt quilts on t…Read More

  4. Thankful for Customer Feedback

When customers pick up their quilts, they are often overwhelmed and some of them even cry. But they are usually having the quilts made for someone other than themselves. So it's always nice to get feedback from the actual quilt recipients. I recently had the privilege of making a couple of t-shirt quilts out of a deceased gentleman's shirts. His wife was having them made to give to her son and dau…Read More

  5. A Quilter’s Christmas

I just realized I haven't posted since Thanksgiving weekend. The month of December has gone by in a flash and I can't believe it's Christmas night. I have had a very hectic month. In addition to making quite a few t-shirt quilts, I've been spending several hours a week doing physical therapy for my back and neck. And there were Christmas parties with two different bees and then two family Christma…Read More

  6. Give the Gift of Warmth this Christmas

It's just a few days till Thanksgiving and then everyone who hasn't already thought about Christmas shopping is going to be rushing around to get it all done in time for the holidays. If you would like to give a one-of-a-kind gift, consider giving a quilt. I still have a couple of slots available to make T-shirt quilts in time for Christmas and I also have some quilts for sale. Or if you don't hav…Read More

  7. Quilt Market

In spite of how it may appear in the picture, I really had a productive quilt market. The vendors go out of their way to decorate their booths and make it fun for the Market attendees and it's great to go just to witness their creativity. I met with several fabric vendors and ordered over 30 bolts of fabric. One of the vendors is a new one for me, so I'm looking forward to adding to my fabric choi…Read More

  8. Stretching as a Quilter

As a long time quilter, I have certain types of quilts that I like to make. Piecing is my favorite thing to do, but paper piecing is a whole new ball of wax for me. I fell so in love with a pattern by Judy Niemeyer called Prismatic Star that I had to make it. The only problem was that it is made using paper piecing and that just seems a little backward to me. But since I loved the quilt so much, I…Read More

  9. Gift Quilts

As promised a few weeks ago, I am sharing a photo of a quilt I started at retreat in August. I got it quilted and bound and it is now in a gift bag to take to a great niece's wedding on Saturday.  I hope she and her new husband like the quilt as much as I do. I really enjoyed making it. The quilt pictured on the right is a baby quilt and it has been shipped off for a baby shower that I won't be a…Read More

  10. Football Team Quilts

Once again school has started and so have preseason football games. Now is the time to order a team quilt for your favorite sports fan. They make great Christmas gifts for the man (or woman) who already has everything. A quilt with their team logo would be a one-of-a-kind gift that they could treasure for a lifetime. I generally make two different sizes, but I can do bigger or smaller as well. My …Read More
