Quilter’s Heaven

Last week I wrote about the first quilt shop that my two friends and I visited on our week long quilt journey. But one of our main destinations on the trip was the Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton, Missouri. Jenny Doan has created a mecca for quilters and it did not disappoint. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot near the front of the main store and I’m sure our mouths were agape when we entered. I remarked at the time that we were in “quilter’s heaven”. We walked in to a large room filled with quilts, quilt-related gifts, and fabric.  There are about a dozen or so shops with different themes and the main store had displays of fabrics that were featured in each shop. We found quite a few goodies we wanted right away, but decided to take our time and look at all the shops before coming back to buy our souvenir t-shirts and other items we had our eyes on.  In the main store, there is also a seating area around with a large TV screen with Jenny Doan tutorials playing. There was also a beautiful glass-top coffee table that had four quilts in it that I would love to have for my house. We spent the day going up and down the street from shop to shop and then back again to some of them. I found the perfect fabric to make a quilt for my newly-painted bedroom, but I didn’t stop there. I found a bundle of Future Farmers of America fabric and had to buy that to make a quilt for my granddaughter who has already raised a pig in FFA. I also bought several layer cakes just because I loved the fabric. The good thing is that after you are done shopping at Missouri Star, you can take all your purchases and receipts to the main store and if you have spent over $100, they will ship it free. I would imagine that most people did spend over $100. There were lots of quilters there and some of them came in buses. It was a wonderful day and we were definitely in our happy place and we were the envy of our quilting friends at home.

Take a look at our Gallery to see examples of the T-Shirt Quilts as well as few of the many other quilts we have made.

I started making quilts as a child and have been quilting for others for over twenty years. Quilts that I have quilted have been featured in several quilting books and magazines.
