How To Prepare Your Quilt for Our Machine Quilting Service
At Katy T-Shirt Quilts, we understand the joy of custom quilting and how it can transform pieces of fabric into beautiful works of art. If you’re looking to take your quilt to the next level with our machine quilting service, you’re in the right place. Read on to learn more about how to prepare your custom quilt before you send it to us, and get started with our machine quilting services today!

Backing Basics
Your backing fabric should be 8″ to 10″ longer and wider than your quilt top. Additionally, please square off your backing fabric so there are no uneven edges. Use only cotton fabric for your backing; sheets are not suitable for this purpose. When choosing the color of your backing fabric, keep in mind that the same thread color will be used for the front and back of your quilt, so select a color that complements your quilt top.

Preparing Your Quilt Top
If your quilt top has a directional pattern or design, mark the top with a safety pin so that we can align it correctly during quilting. Additionally, trim any loose threads to prevent them from showing through on the top of your quilt.

Keep Your Pieces Separate
Please do not baste your quilt sandwich together before sending it to us. Each piece (top, batting, and backing) is loaded onto our quilting machine separately to ensure precision and quality in the quilting process. If you plan to add embellishments to your quilt, we recommend waiting until after the quilting is completed.

Batting Choices
We offer 80/20 batting for your quilting needs, but if you prefer to provide your own batting, it should also be 8″ to 10″ wider and longer than your quilt top. The right batting choice can significantly impact the texture and warmth of your quilt, so choose one that complements your vision.
At Katy T-Shirt Quilts, we are passionate about enhancing your quilting projects with our machine quilting service. By following these preparation guidelines, you can ensure that your quilt is in the best possible condition for our experts to work their magic.
